Day 2: We will oick you up from the resort 7:15 am and drive to the pier where we board the VIP speedboat or the dive yacht start the journey to Sail Rock one of the most interesting dive sites around Koh Samui. The trip to Sail Rock on this boat takes about 40 minutes and we use the time to review and prepare for the two elective specialty dives with your instructor.
You will make two 'elective' specialty dives at Sail Rock and between the dives we will have lunch and relax for an hour. We should be back at Koh Samui between 1:00 pm and 2:00.
A short description of this dive site follows:
Sail Rock is undoubtedly the most famous dive site in the Koh Samui archipelago. This rock pinnacle, shaped like an iceberg, emerges from a sandy bottom at 40m to tower 15m above the oceans surface. Located 45 kilometers North of Koh Samui, it is mid-way between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao and provides large schools of pelage’s, steep walls, rugged rock formations and an awesome “vertical chimney” swim through. The swim through, located on the northwest side, starts from 18m down and exits at 6m where the natural light penetrating the top makes it fantastically picturesque.
At 18m, two divers can enter the cavern abreast where it bends vertically upwards. At 12m you'll spot a hole that opens up and it is possible to swim back into open water from here. At the exit, just 6m from the surface, you'll find yourself surrounded by a magnificent carpet of pink anemones full of vibrant anemone fish. Other known visitors include barracudas, king mackerels, and the occasional whale shark, as well as a wide variety of colorful reef fishes.
From the beginning of April 2009 our dive shop have seen one to two whale sharks at Sail Rock 2 to 3 times a week for 6 weeks. Occurrence this often is unique, as we normally see a whale shark for a day or two once a month and then it moves somewhere else.
Day 3: We will collect you from the dive resort at 7:15 a.m. and go to the pier where a light breakfast is served. There we will board the VIP Speedbaot that will take us Chumpone Pinnacle and Koh Tao for your deep dive and underwater navigation specialty dive plus one 'elective' adventure dive.The journey takes about 70 minutes and during this time you will review the dive material and prepare for the adventure dives with your instructor.
After lunch we will go for your underwater navigation specialty dive plus one 'elective' specialty dive at one of the many shallower dive sites near Koh Tao.
At about 13:30 we will start the way back to Samui, arriving there around 14.30.
A short description of this dive site follows:
Chumphon Pinnacle is Koh Tao’s most impressive and desirable dive site and also can be one of the most challenging dive sites with occasionally strong currents and a maximum depth of 36m. The site consists of four massive pinnacles that tower up to 12m below the surface.
As the site is a good distance offshore, the visibility is excellent, more than 30m (100ft) and whale sharks with accompanying striped remoras can often be spotted. The site is an ideal place to spot big groupers, pickhandle barracudas and king mackerels. In the last 2 months, we have seen one to six gray reef sharks 1.5 to 2.5 meter at this site on almost every dive.
The afternoon dives will be at one of the many shallower dive sites near Koh Tao, which is also known as the “turtle island” as its shape resembles a turtle. Koh Tao's little sister island, Koh Nangyuan is a private island that consists of three smaller islands connected together by a beautiful sandbank. Together, these islands form four bays with crystal-clear water, white sandy beaches with no strong current, a variety of colorful reef fishes and fascinating coral reefs that offer optimal conditions for diving.
There are more than a twenty dive sites near Koh Tao and on our day trip to Koh Tao we will select the dive site that offer the best condition for our divers in accordance to your experience level, interests and course objective.
Day 4: Open - Explore Samui island or just relax on the beach. |
